What is gum disease?
Gum disease is swelling, soreness or infection of the tissues supporting the teeth. Early gum disease is called gingivitis. If it progresses, it may damage the bone supporting the teeth.
What is the role of the hygienist?
The hygienist professionally removes plaque and tartar and shows you the best way to keep your teeth and gums clean. They can also advise on diet and preventing tooth decay.
